Tillington Hall hotel, nestled in the heart of Staffordshire, is providing business people with a free room for an afternoon nap, in light of new research suggesting a regular nap of 20 minutes can help to reduce health risks later in life.
According to the new study, conducted by Cardiologist, Manolis Kallistratos at Asklepieion General Hospital in Voula, Greece, “napping can be easily adopted and typically doesn’t cost anything. Based on our findings, if someone has the luxury to take a nap during the day, it may also have benefits for high blood pressure.”
While the number of people living with high blood pressure reaches 1.1 billion worldwide, Tillington Hall hotel are urging business people to take all the precautions necessary to reduce the health risks associated with their busy lifestyle.
Andrew Sanders, Regional General Manager for Hospitality First, said, “We’re keen to encourage busy individuals to take more time for themselves, and that doesn’t just mean a quick coffee break. It’s so important to get enough shut eye, and if this research is anything to go on, we need to do more to ensure the health and wellbeing of our guests for the future.”
Dr Guy Meadows, clinical director at The Sleep School says that the afternoon lull is actually hardwired into our DNA. He says that humans would have rested in the midday sun tens of thousands of years ago and that behaviour has become “imprinted in our circadian rhythms.”
Even if guests simply do not have the time or capacity to ‘shut off from the real world’ for an afternoon nap, Sanders has advised local business people to take advantage of the free room incentive, even if it’s just to rest their eyes for 20 minutes.
Sanders continued, “We see plenty of business people running around our hotel – whether they’re grabbing a coffee before work, rushing in and out of our conference rooms, or staying for the night ahead of a big meeting the next day. We’ve seen it all. The good, the bad and the run down. It’s time for us to show our support for the honest, hardworking business people, that walk through our doors, by encouraging them to take some well-deserved ‘me time’.
