Walsall’s very own Indie band, Modern Minds, are set to release their new EP next month at The O2 Academy, Birmingham, with the backing of record label GT’s Records – known in the industry for helping the likes of Tippa Irie and Pato Banton on their quest for stardom. The seemingly unusual partnership have created a cocktail of the band’s signature rhythms and vocals teamed with professional production to create a sound that is bound to capture you and get your feet tapping.
The five-piece band have taken a massive leap since forming in 2013, with a tour on the cards across the UK for 2015. The band have been compared to bands such as Two Door Cinema Club and the music has been described by Amy Sumner at Brumnotes.com as ‘impressingly powerful’ and ‘multi-layered and the use of synths introduces a welcome element of variation.’
Alex, the keyboard player from Modern Minds says “We can’t wait to reveal our new EP – It’s been a long road well travelled, and we have put our blood, sweat and tears into it. We’ve had a lot of amazing support and 2015 is already proving to be a great year for us. Teaming up with GT’s Records was the start of something really exciting for the band!”
After meeting Grantley ‘GT’ Haynes of GT’s Records, the band realised it was time to take things seriously and get a solid Manager, Producer and Record Label behind them. Turning down recording deals with others, the band decided that GT could give them the edge with his hard-hitting, honest management style and coaching skills. Pairing these qualities with his involvement with producers ‘My Boyz Beats’, the team created a relationship that shows in the music – It screams with professionalism but doesn’t detract from the sound that the band are known for.
“When I first heard Modern Minds on Soundcloud, I thought ‘Wow! I like them, they remind me the story Jay Boberg and Miles Copeland told about REM. I just want to listen to them again and again! They could be awesome if I worked with them!’ Since then, our relationship has blossomed and we are looking forward to an amazing year!” – Grantley ‘GT’ Haynes
The band have been going from strength to strength since pairing up with GT, with venues and festivals across the UK booking them fast. Modern Minds already have a following locally, but are hungry to get themselves into the charts this year. The EP, ‘We Need To Talk’, is available for public download and purchase from the 24th April 2015. If you want to feel part of their success story, get yourself to the official launch party for the EP at The O2 Academy, Birmingham on the 9th May with live performances from the band themselves and special guests.
